History of West Dayton Area
Five Points is in what is considered the west Dayton area as it is west of the river and just directly west of downtown Dayton. The west Dayton community has roots that can be traced back to before the Civil War. Much of the growth of this Area of Dayton first began with the building of bridges across the river from the downtown Dayton area. There was an industrial boom that was brought on by World War I in the great migration in the early 1900s that brought many families to the area causing several single-family houses to be constructed in the area. Several residents came to the western portion of Dayton after moving north to find a better lifestyle after the end of World War I. Many homes were built around factories and employment centers at the time. After World War II several West Dayton neighborhoods became a center for African-American families to settle. And today it is still a neighborhood full of interesting and thriving diversity.
