History of Fairborn Ohio
Fairborn was officially started in 1950 when two villages merged to create the city. It is the only city in the entire world to have the name Fairborn, it is a combination of the names Osborn and Fairfield, after the two villages that converged together to create the city. The original villages have history dating back to the early 1800s. The area near Mad River was considered desirable land to live by pioneers and was settled before Ohio officially became a state.
After Fairborn officially became a city, it grew very quickly over the next 20 years, partly due to the implementation of the air force base. Today many of the residents of Fairborn work at the Wright-Patterson Airforce Base, known to be the most diverse base in the country. Wright University is also located in Fairborn and a very large employer.

The public schools of Fairborn are part of the Fairborn City School District. Fairborn has the largest elementary school in the state, Fairborn Primary School. Other public schools that serve the city of Fairborn include Fairborn Intermediate School, Fairborn Baker Middle School, Fairborn High School, and Wright State University. Many of the schools have received name changes. The high school was once Park Hills High School, the current Fairborn High School is a result of the Park Hills School merging with Fairborn Baker High into the Park Hills building so that the Fairborn Baker High building could become the new middle school.
