Storage Tips To Help Maintain Food Freshness

It’s easy to throw food straight into the fridge once you get home from the store. Foods left at room temperature may also call for special consideration. For example, onions and potatoes should be kept away from direct sunlight. Another tip is to refrain from putting room temp items — such as bananas, oranges, limes and grapefruit — inside sealed plastic bags. Instead, these should be stored in perforated bags to let them “breathe” and allow the ethylene gas they release to be dispersed. Follow these tips and others like them to help get the most out what you buy and reduce food waste.
